This isn't a good sign

As I do daily, I check the tv station in Jonesboro for updates on Nick's school. Today I saw the below & it really doesn't sound good. In addition, MORE freezing rain fell in Kennett today and more is forecast for Monday.

It looks like we won't be going home for a while. :( As much as I do love seeing family, there's nothing like being in your own home.

Well, this sucks

One of the neighbors just came over and his brother works for the local power company. He said it could be THREE TO FOUR WEEKS before we get power. The main problem, apparently, is that nearly every power line in town has been knocked down.

Now, that's basically what happened with Hurricane Wilma except with one big difference: it wasn't freezing outside and the roads weren't nearly and completely impassible. Also, hurricanes are much more exciting than freezing rain. I guess the only good thing is you can put all your food outside rather than it spoil in the fridge.

Live at the Pack Meeting!

Nicholas does a word find with his den at the Boy Scout/ Cub Scout pack meeting tonight. Pretty good turn out considering the freezing rain has already started falling. If it hadn't, we would have walked. As much as I want to reduce our carbon footprint, I'd feel too guilty about making my 8 yr old walk in freezing rain & 34 degree weather.

I shall name it Squishy!

If Mattie ever lets me get another pet, I'd love a pair of Sea Cucumber. Seriously. They have always been one of my favorite animals & I have always wanted one as a pet. When we went to the Key West Aquarium, I got to hold one and I was thrilled!

I will name them Squishy & Salad if I ever get them. Behold, the beauty of the Sea Cucumber! (Well, I think they're beautiful anyway)

Dr Pepper, why hast thou forsaken us?

Behold my very last can of my Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr Pepper stockpile. As I savor every delicious drop, I mourn that it and my other very favorite Dr Pepper drink- Diet Berries & Cream Dr Pepper- are no longer made. After this can, my taste buds will never again behold the delicious artistry of this drink. =(

so done

I am so done with today. My frustration level is through the @&$($&); roof. I am also exceedingly frustrated with my epic fail of trying to install flash on an OLPC. Though at least I successfully installed Firefox- too bad you have to shut the computer off to quit it.

The only good thing about today is that it is Michelle's birthday.

More randomness

In 15 million years, San Francisco and Los Angeles will be adjacent due to movement of the Pacific plate and North American plate. PLAN AHEAD NOW. ;)

I'm feeling quite random today. But I still don't like robots.  Roombas of the world, I have my eye on you... ;)

Clone encounters

As long as the adults involved are consenting, I really don't have a problem with human cloning. On the other hand, I think artificial sentience would be a terrible mistake and robots should be kept as mindless, emotionless tools.

Disappointed with RB2 vocals

Yesterday I finished the "Impossible Vocal Challenge" on expert with 20/25 stars...and was quite disappointed.

Of the 5 songs, I had only heard 3 before in my life- and even then only as stylized covers by other artists (covered by Weird Al & Barenaked Ladies). I didn't know 2 of the songs AT ALL and managed to get 4 stars on both.

That shouldn't have been possible.

Harmonix, I know some people complained that vocals were "too hard" on RB1 (they weren't) but this is a cake walk. Even if you made the rest of the game easy on vocals, "expert" should be at LEAST as hard as expert was on Karaoke Revolution 3. I firmly believe that you should, you know, actually be able to sing well to pass songs on expert.

I am not even that great of a singer, but I can carry a tune. I was hoping RB2 would challenge my vocal range & style similar to how it challenges drummers & guitarists. I was very disappointed.

When someone on my PSN friends list, who openly brags that he cannot sing, got the "Impossible Vocals Challenge" on expert-first try- there is a problem with the game. I only hope that future RB titles will stop shortchanging vocalists with gravelly, non-singing songs and vocal challenges that are a joke. =(

Cuteness attack!

Sweetie continues her torrent of über-cuteness attacks, this time by curling up so adorably in my lap and napping. Now my leg is hurting but I don't want to move!

A girl after Mommy's own heart

Just like me, Sweetie loves semi-soft cheese (Brie, Camembert) and Carr's Table Water Biscuits! =D

Yes, I dote on her just like I dote on Nick. But obviously Nick gets more as my human child. -LOL- No chance that Sweetie will ever get a phone. ;)

For The Love of Crepes!

It's a good thing there isn't an iHop nearby or I'd be in trouble. I am a serious lover of crepes (though I can't make them myself worth a darn) and I discovered the joy (delicious, fruit-topping-covered joy) of iHOP's expanded crepe menu options.

Mmmmmmm... crepes!

I LOVE THIS GAME!

LittleBigPlanet rules so much that it would justify anyone getting a PS3. If you haven't added me as a friend on the PSN yet, it's HelenAngel.

When you gotta go...

The neighbors across the street with their innovative use of a toilet as patio furniture. ;) One day I'll post about their other hijinks, including running around in a ketchup costume & using our phone every day for 3 months.

Foot...loose?

So last night I sliced the bottom of the heel of my right foot while improperly & overzealously using a callous shaver. Ah the blood shed for vanity! ;)

I'm easing myself back into the blogsphere & the intarwebz in general like easing into a hot bath after trekking across a frozen wildnerness.

Oh and yay for first aid kits & Neosporin + Pain Relief!
