These beautiful roses were waiting for me when I got home, a delightful surprise from my wonderfully supportive husband, Mattie. I love you, darling! =)

I was a bit bummed because I resigned from my job (long story) so my prince charming totally made my evening with these. Many husbands would probably be annoyed at their wife if she quit before the money sink that is the holiday season, but mine is darling & supportive. I couldn't ask for a more wonderful man. =)

Last year, I planted oregano, mint & thyme in the flowerbed in the front yard. I was disappointed when they never sprouted. It seems that this year they have but NOT in the flowerbed where I planted them but the one across the front walk. Okay, herbs, at least you did something. Don't hate, we all gotta start somewhere. =D Okay, okay. So I'm no Katherine Rowland, JRR Tolkien, or JK Rowling. But Tamara liked the story so I figured it was good enough to self-publish on Amazon.com as a SUPER INEXPENSIVE (check it- $.80) short story for the Kindle (or an iPhone if you download Kindle for iPhone free app).

I'm considering writing and publishing one short story a week and make myself a super prolific Kindle author. They'll all be with roughly the same background and trailblaze that oh-so-popular comedic sci-fi genre. ;)

The thing is, those of you who have read my LiveJournal for a few years will remember that I had done my own research into serotonin, vasopressin, oxytocin, etc. in regards to love, inducing love, and using "love cocktails" to help people fall out of love. Since long-term love requires more than just a potent "love potion" (compatibility, attraction, conflict resolution, etc. are ongoing), a "love drug" to induce love would be silly. The effects would be short-term at best and wouldn't lead to long-lasting relationships.

However, a medicine to be used as therapy to ease heartache, help treat attachment disorders, etc? THAT would be incredibly helpful. Think, for instance, of a woman suffering from post-partum depression. She doesn't feel bonded with her baby, her hormones have taken a serious plunge with her mood, and she is truly suffering. Rather than taking antidepressants which can be passed along to baby in breast milk, what if during therapy she was administered a cocktail of oxytocin, vasopressin, and serotonin? Would this help speed along her recovery? Would it help her begin her initial bonding to baby, ease some of her feelings of anxiousness, and assist

I think that pushing aside our initial horror of "OMG, SYNTHETIC LOVE" and spending time investigating the therapeutic usages of such "love potions" could aid many people in their ongoing battles with mental health issues.

As I do daily, I check the tv station in Jonesboro for updates on Nick's school. Today I saw the below & it really doesn't sound good. In addition, MORE freezing rain fell in Kennett today and more is forecast for Monday.

Well, this sucks

One of the neighbors just came over and his brother works for the local power company. He said it could be THREE TO FOUR WEEKS before we get power. The main problem, apparently, is that nearly every power line in town has been knocked down.

Now, that's basically what happened with Hurricane Wilma except with one big difference: it wasn't freezing outside and the roads weren't nearly and completely impassible. Also, hurricanes are much more exciting than freezing rain. I guess the only good thing is you can put all your food outside rather than it spoil in the fridge.

Disappointed with RB2 vocals

Yesterday I finished the "Impossible Vocal Challenge" on expert with 20/25 stars...and was quite disappointed.

Of the 5 songs, I had only heard 3 before in my life- and even then only as stylized covers by other artists (covered by Weird Al & Barenaked Ladies). I didn't know 2 of the songs AT ALL and managed to get 4 stars on both.

That shouldn't have been possible.

Harmonix, I know some people complained that vocals were "too hard" on RB1 (they weren't) but this is a cake walk. Even if you made the rest of the game easy on vocals, "expert" should be at LEAST as hard as expert was on Karaoke Revolution 3. I firmly believe that you should, you know, actually be able to sing well to pass songs on expert.

I am not even that great of a singer, but I can carry a tune. I was hoping RB2 would challenge my vocal range & style similar to how it challenges drummers & guitarists. I was very disappointed.

When someone on my PSN friends list, who openly brags that he cannot sing, got the "Impossible Vocals Challenge" on expert-first try- there is a problem with the game. I only hope that future RB titles will stop shortchanging vocalists with gravelly, non-singing songs and vocal challenges that are a joke. =(

SpeedDate destroys yet another Facebook app.

Even if I was single, I would never, ever use SpeedDate. Besides the premise of speed dating being fundamentally stupid (20 second to decide if you even slightly like someone? Yeah, I see that being successful.), their entire PR business model is to buy non-dating Facebook apps for the users, destroy the application, and turn it into their sleazy SpeedDate application. They've done it yet again, this time to the Bless You app, and managed to piss off even more Facebook users than they did when they destroyed Oregon Trail.

It seems their user-hungry, smarmy business practices are blowing up in their face, and I hope it continues to do so. Companies need to realize that doing business like spammers and con men isn't the way to go. Sure you may get sheer numbers of email addresses but you have thousands of people like me using those very same social networking sites to tell everyone they know about how unethical and sleazy your business is. Numbers aren't anything if your reputation sucks.

Three years ago, Michelle the awesome girl of win took me to a Salvatore Ferragamo store in the posh portion of Sawgrass Mills and surprised me by getting me a beautiful light blue wallet. I will admit that I know little to nothing about designer stuff but 3 yrs later this wallet is still beautiful so I say this man makes damn good wallets! =)

Dr. Atheist saw the Early Christmas Invasion first in the UK... and it has now spread to dollar stores in the rural USA! SURELY this is the work of the LHC skewing our reality! (Just kidding. =) But Christmas stuff is up WAY early.)

PS- I get our Christmas tree from RedRock Farm (www.christmastrees.net) They are FANTASTIC and I can't recommend them enough!

Late July Organic Vanilla Bean sandwich cookies are three times more yummy than Oreos (which I loved) and WITHOUT any transfat, high fructose corn syrup, or other yucky stuff. We get them in bulk from Amazon.com and they are wicked delicious (and Kosher and vegan, too)

My my my, how interesting and tabloid-esque this whole American presidential race is. The only reason I'm paying attention is for the LOLZ. Politics in US is serious bizznezz. -LOL-

I wish I could take it seriously but I just can't. It's just too filled with mindless partisan bickering and OMG VOTE 4 MY TEAM THE OTHER GUY SUCKS. At the heart of this election, there is something even more disturbing driving it: prejudice. Be it racism, homophobia, intellectual elitism, hypocrisy, spiritual superiority, religious elitism- that is what is going to drive most people to their votes this year. It makes me sick.

I should disable comments because I know it will turn into a slam-fest against whichever side you don't like, but I can't do that on my phone. Comment at your own risk. ;)

Last Sunday I drove to Paragould to attend Mass Lite. Their Deacon (who is super nice) is getting ordained next month so they'll have a full time priest. It's a 30 minute drive but it's the closest. They were excited when I told them about the music stuff I do at St Benny's.

In addition to my other "words to live by", these are the most recent:

So many people hide themselves from the world. I was one of them, for many years. I hid so that I didn't have to deal with public criticism or scrutiny. I hid because I was afraid of rejection, afraid that people wouldn't like me.

The simple truth is that you can't please everyone. There will be people who will dislike you for no reason whatsoever. Some people can never be pleased.

When I made my LiveJournal friends only in 2003, my friend Ted said that when you close your heart, and close your life, you may be protecting yourself but it keeps new people from coming into it.

I've thought a lot about that. Finally, whether it's a product of being on anti-depressants or finally realizing that people DO like *ME* for me and who I am, I'm ready to just live in the light. No darkness, no hiding, no obscurity. Privacy is one thing, transparency is another. You can be transparent but have your privacy. People don't need to know, or want to know, that you feel bloated or that you played too much Cookie Bonus solitaire. What they want to know is overall who you are, what you're like, and what you want.

I am Helen Joan Casper. I like video games, friends, silliness, pajamas, olives, chocolate, laughter, chilly days, and hugs. I want to do my best to make the world around me a little better than it was before. I try to better myself. I want everyone to feel loved. I want to speak the truth, but do so in love.

It's not schtick. I'm not perfect. I have epic failures and will continue to do so. But everyone has goals. Those are mine. I don't know if I will ever reach it but it is something I can keep trying at, every day. Some days I will fail. Some days I won't.

The simple fact is that everyone in the whole world has their problems. A vast majority of us are just trying to do the best we can with what we have.
